40 million Americans are chronically ill with various sleep disorders and 95% of these patients remain undiagnosed and untreated. The Finley Hospital Sleep Disorders Sleep Clinic opened in January 2005 to treat this increasing medical concern. Sleep disorder medicine is a clinical specialty concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of patients with disorders of sleep and daytime alertness. A "sleep study" is non-invasive, lasts from 6-8 hours, and performed during normal sleeping hours. During the Sleep study, brain waves, chest movements, breathing and airflow patterns, heart rates and oxygen levels are measured, as well as snoring, eye and muscle movement.
