Cardiovascular Services

Cardiovascular ServicesCardiac Rehabilitation Phase II is an outpatient service designed for the client with coronary artery disease or risk factors for itÍs development. Program components include clinically supervised monitored exercise, psycho-social support and education on risk factor modification.

The primary goals of Phase II are to enhance cardiovascular function, detect problems that may develop with exercise, educate on exercise and lifestyle modification, and to prepare the client for return to work and resumption of normal family and social roles.

Cardiac Rehabilitation Phase III is an outpatient service designed for the client after completion of Phase II Rehab. It can also benefit low risk clients who did not participate in the Phase II program. Phase III can last from 6 to 24 months and generally includes both clinical supervision, and intermittent ECG monitoring.

The primary goals of the Phase III program are to improve physical fitness, promote a feeling of well being, and to reduce the risk of a recurring event.

Who benefits from Cardiac Rehabilitation?

  • Candidates for Phase II Cardiac Rehabilitation are:
  • Clients who have had heart surgery, a heart attack. or angioplasty and stent replacement.
  • Clients who have had stable Angina.
  • Candidates for Phase III Cardiac Rehabilitation are:
  • All clients who have completed Phase II.
  • Clients with coronary artery disease or risk factors.
  • Individuals who are interested in improving their overall health.

When does the program begin?
The outpatient or Phase II Cardiac Rehabilitation Program begins one to six weeks after discharge from the hospital, or as soon as the physician feels the client is medically stable. Sessions are conducted one to three times per week, lasting 60 to 90 minutes per session. The length of the program is individualized based upon physician preference and the clientÍs need.

What is the cost of the program?
PHASE II:
Most third party insurance providers cover up to 100% for a predetermined number of sessions.

Medicare recipients are entitled to 80% coverage and their supplemental insurance carrier will provide the remaining 20% for up to 36 sessions.

Uninsured clients who you feel would benefit from the program will be evaluated on a case by case basis.

PHASE III:
The Phase III program is not covered by the majority of insurance providers. There is a nominal fee for each session.

What about transportation?
The Finley Care-A-Van can provide clients with transportation to and from Cardiac Rehab free of charge provided they live within the Dubuque city limits. Rides can be arranged by calling the Cardiac Rehab Department at (563) 589-2552.
