The Finley Hospital School of Nursing (FHSN) was established in Dubuque, Iowa, in 1896 and was one of the first six nursing school in the state. It provided a 3-year course of study and remained that way until May 1987, when it graduated its last nursing class.

Founded in 1913, the Finley Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association honors the traditions, history, accomplishments and legacy of the FHSN, which educated outstanding nurses for 90 years. Its Mission is to preserve the School of Nursing's history, provide support for the education of nurses and advance the mission of The Finley Hospital.

FHSN alumni have touched countless numbers of lives and saved many others. As hospital staff and mangers, members of the military, missionaries, parents and members of their respective communities, their contributions to society are a living testament to the quality of education they received at the School of Nursing.

Each year, FHSN alumni gather for social and educational events to share professional experiences, reminisce on their School of Nursing days and advance the cause of quality nursing education for the nurses of the future. An annual nurse scholarship program gives students and young professionals the opportunity to pursue nursing careers.

The hallway adjacent to the Medical Library at The Finley Hospital is dedicated to the School of Nursing. Maintained by the Alumni Association, this permanent exhibit of photographs, historical items, uniforms and other memorabilia is available for public viewing.

Through the efforts of the Alumni Association, FHSN's mission to prepare women and men for the most noble and giving of professions lives on.
