The Finley Hospital Signs Contract with Diversified Clinical Services for Wound Care Center
November 30, 2009
|
Center to Offer Latest Technology in Treating Debilitating and Life-Threatening Wounds
The Finley Hospital recently signed a contract with Diversified Clinical Services, the nation’s pioneer and leader in wound management services, to develop a Wound Care Center® for the treatment of chronic and acute non-healing wounds. Scheduled to open in spring 2010, the outpatient center will utilize advanced therapies and proven clinical protocols in providing comprehensive, integrated services, including the introduction of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is a leading edge procedure in which a patient breathes 100 percent oxygen while relaxing in a pressurized chamber. This delivers high concentrations of oxygen to the blood stream and the wound bed, which rapidly accelerated the healing process.
Nationally, approximately 7 million people suffer from chronic, non-healing wounds—a serious disorder that can lead to amputation of limbs and dramatically impaired quality of life. Associated with inadequate circulation, poorly functioning veins and immobility, non-healing wounds occur most frequently in the elderly and in people with diabetes—populations that are sharply rising as the nation ages and chronic diseases increase.
The Finley Hospital Wound Care Center will be an important resource for the tri-state area, and will compliment the service of the Finley Kehl Diabetes center in diabetes care. “We are excited to be adding this vital service to our continuum of care,” John Knox, Finley CEO. “Not only will the Wound Care Center enhance the quality care already available at the hospital, but it also can serve as a key addition to the practices of our referring physicians—both of which will positively impact the health of our community.”
By working with Diversified Clinical Services to develop the center, The Finley Hospital will have access to the company’s more than 15 years of experience in opening more than 250 Wound Care Centers across the country. “Enhancing the wound care services that are available for the patients of Finley Hospital helps to enable us as caregivers to provide the best care to our patients at all times right here in Dubuque!”, shares Piper MacRae-Egan BA, RN, CWOCN, CLT Finley Wound Care Clinic Coordinator.
The center will use Diversified Clinical Services’ innovative techniques that focus on not just treating the wound’s symptoms, but healing it entirely by taking a disease management approach that eliminates the cause.
